The Touch Trans Tasman Test Series is delicately poised going into the final day on Saturday. After their loss on Thursday, the Mixed Touch Blacks bounced back against Australia winning 10-9 in a courageous performance that sets up a winner takes all encounter tomorrow.
The team fought back from a 5-2 halftime deficit to come away with the victory with just seconds left on the clock after New Zealand raced down the field to get into good field and made the most of the opportunity; Tiwi Davis setting up Mohi Aupouri to dive over to take the win and keep the series alive.
After their historic win last night, the Women’s Touch Blacks backed up with another strong performance. The Women went 2-0 up in short time with Morgan Morrow and Megan Campbell finishing off clever plays. Australia stepped up under pressure though and were too good on this occasion. They got themselves back in the game and were able to hold off a late NZ charge; yesterday’s scoreline was reversed with the hosts winning 4-3. New Zealand proved however that their win on Thursday was no fluke and are confident of gaining a series victory tomorrow.
If the Mixed and Women’s Touch Blacks do win their games tomorrow then the Trans Tasman Trophy will be won by New Zealand. Australia still remain in the box seat for the overall championship after defeating the Men’s Touch Blacks 8-5 in the final match of the evening. New Zealand were in it for most of the match but couldn’t withstand an Aussie onslaught midway through the second half.
