50’s Men Auckland are out and out hot favourites for this grade with 6 clean wins – however, the gap was narrowed considerably in the second round robin. Anything can happen on the day as we know and whilst Auckland may take the easy road tomorrow if statistics are anything to go by, an extra game thrown in for the other teams may just keep them limber enough to make a play for the title.
21 Men and Mixed Counties Manukau head into Day 3 top of the pool with no losses and just one draw for both grades. The mixed looks particularly exciting with 7 teams in the grade and Auckland, Whanganui and BOP close on their heels of Counties Manukau.
21 Women What an exciting grade this has been. The skill level and ability of these young ladies has been so awesome to watch as they knock on the door of our opens. Canterbury – true to form with their running game, precision and discipline lead the charge into Finals finishing first in the pool.
Open Men Auckland finished on top of arguably our fastest grade with five straight wins. Hot on their heels are Waikato and BOP with Counties Manukau finishing in 4th and still a chance at the title.
Open Mixed With more teams in this grade than any other, the heat was on to finish first and second in both pools. Otago and Auckland remained unbeaten at the end of the day with near perfect games, 4 clean wins and draw against each other. Pool B had Kapiti and Southland both finishing top of their pool. It’s going to be a fierce battle and anyones guess as to who will pull through and take the money…
Open Women We have a mixed bag in this grade despite Counties Manukau winning all of their pool games. Both Waikato and Auckland are also looking sharp and it would be hard to place any one team ahead of the other for these three. BOP and Manawatu finished 4th and 5th respectively and whilst Bay have a crack at the slow road, Manawatu will play off for 4th place.
27/35W With the revival of the 27 Womens grade, they combined with the 35’s Women to complete a round robin. As expected they went through unbeaten and will play each other in the final tomorrow at 2:30 on field 5. The 35W displayed some awesome skills and resilience against the younger teams however it is a fairly even battle against their own. Counties Manukau finished top of the pool with 3 wins and 2 losses.
30/35 Men The 30’s Men have a hearty turnout with 6 teams entered and one O35’s Mens added into the mix. Canterbury and Auckland are unbeaten with North Harbour also building up to a strong campaign. Playoffs tomorrow will be interesting and anyone in the top 4 could pull through.
40’s Men 8 teams in this grade which has leant to a hearty battle of the fittest and hopefully excellent injury management and prevention by using the ACC SportSmart Warm-up. Canterbury have pulled through to finish 1st in the pool with Auckland, BOP and Harbour alongside them in the playoffs.
