Local Referees Selected to Represent Aotearoa at Asia Pacific Touch Cup

Touch New Zealand is proud to announce a strong contingent of referees selected to officiate at the 2026 Asia Pacific Opens Touch Cup, highlighting the depth of officiating talent within the country.

Originally scheduled to take place in Redcliffe, Queensland, the international tournament will now be held in Mudgee, regional New South Wales, while retaining its dates of Thursday, 23 April to Sunday, 26 April 2026. The event will bring together some of the best Touch Football athletes and officials from across the Asia Pacific region.

A total of 14 New Zealand referees have been selected for the tournament, alongside two referee coaches, marking a significant achievement for the individuals involved and the wider Touch community. Their selection reflects not only their technical ability, but also their commitment to the game and the high standards required to perform on the international stage.

Touch New Zealand Chief Executive Joe Sprangers acknowledged the accomplishment, praising the group for their dedication and professionalism.

“This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the dedication, professionalism, and passion you bring to the game as match officials,” Sprangers said.

“To be recognised on the international stage is no small feat, and we are incredibly proud to see you representing Aotearoa and your referee whānau.”

The selection reinforces New Zealand’s reputation for producing world-class officials and provides an opportunity for the referees to further develop their skills while representing their country with pride.

As the tournament approaches, the group will continue their preparations, carrying with them the support of their local communities and the wider Touch whānau across Aotearoa.
