World Masters Games 2017 Touch

The World Masters Games 2017 Touch was epic. A total of 76 teams from various countries assembled at Bruce Pulman Park Auckland to compete in 16 different grades. Touch contributed over 1000 competitors to the largest participation sports event in the world (28,000+).

The 4 day tournament was extremely tough, both physically and mentally on players & referees. So a healthy measure of “off-field fun” was planned & provided through theme days, spot prizes, music and refreshments to keep everyone in good spirits.

Everyone had their reasons to attend the tournament. Some wanted to be amongst the big names like Galaxy who were celebrating their 30th anniversary. A few teams took advantage of the opportunity to bring old friends back together for a laugh but then surprised themselves with how well they had done. But most people were there to be a part of history, this is the biggest event to date and it was nothing short of amazing.

The future looks bright for Masters Touch around the world and especially in NZ. The success of this event proves that Touch needs to be included in the 2021 World Masters Games in Japan.
